DESA 2006 North American Conference
UNC Chapel Hill
The 2006 DESA North American Conference was held May 18-21, 2006 on the beautiful campus of the University of North Carolina.
DESA wishes to thank its Sponsors for making this a valuable and enjoyable experience for all who attended. Special thanks also to Joe Largay, PAC, CDE and his conference committee for an outstanding program.
Highlights:
- Jay Leeuwenburg spoke on his football career at the University of Colorado and in nine seasons as an offensive lineman in the NFL. Jay has recently published an account of his career and how he met the challenges of diabetes. A copy of his book, "YES I can! Yes you can! Tackle Diabetes and Win!" were given to all participants. - The conference faculty chaired by John Buse, MD, PhD, CDE provided excellent presentations and workshops on the latest information on exercise and diabetes management strategies.
- Gary Scheiner, MS,CDE and Rich Weil, M.Ed., CDE were elected to the DESA Board of Directors
- Paula Harper, RN, CDE was awarded the inaugural DESA Lifetime Achievement Award for her work in founding and serving the organization for 21 years.
- "Blame it on Jane" provided a rousing night of song and dance, and the antics of Rog Bates entertained everyone.
