Run/Walk/Hike – Meet and Move!
Sunday, June 27th, -- 9am
UW- Arboretum Visitor Center
http://uwarboretum.org/about/arb_map.pdf
Come join the Madison chapter of the Diabetes Exercise and Sports Association for its inaugural get together in the beautiful UW Arboretum. Our goal is to have several active events throughout the year that allows diabetics of all types (as well as family and friends) to meet and move!
We will meet at the entrance of the visitor center for our first meet and move. Depending on the turnout, we will attempt to have three different groups:
A) Beginners: those new to fitness who are interested in incorporating movement and exercise into their self-management routine. This group will most likely hike on one of the arboretum trails or walk on the road throughout. Figure about a 30 minute walk or so.
B) Fit: Those who are already involved with some type of fitness routine and are interested in meeting like minded people. This group will most likely do a run/walk on Arboretum drive, but will be determined by the group, a 30 minute run/walk or brisk walk.
C) Athletic/Event prep: For those who are well into their prep for summer events or who are highly active, a run of 5-10k depending on attendance. Not super fast!
There is no charge for this event and you do not need to be a member of DESA, but we always encourage membership to help support DESA’s mission.
Please bring your own water and any snacks you may require. We will have some dex tabs in case of emergency. Please allow time drive through the Arboretum to park. We will try to start moving as close to 9am as possible.
RSVPs are appreciated you can email me at tmbollinger@gmail.com. My cell the day of the event is 608-334-6150. We will go unless there is heavy rain or storms.

Bike Outing
Sunday, May 16th, 2010 – 9am SHARP
Valley Forge Park, Betzwood Picnic Area
What could be better than enjoying a bike ride with your fellow “blood sugar” brothers and sisters?
The Philadelphia chapter of the Diabetes Exercise & Sports Association (DESA) invites you and your family to enjoy a bike outing on Saturday, May 16th, starting at 9am at the Betzwood Picnic Area adjacent to Valley Forge National Park. There is ample parking in this area. We will congregate across from the restroom building along the main corridor of the picnic area. To get to the Betzwood Picnic Area, take the Trooper Road exit off Rt. 422 (heading north), make an immediate left, and then make a right turn into the Betzwood picnic & parking area.
Depending on the turnout, we will likely have 3 riding groups:
- An “A” group of fast/experienced riders who will head northwest along the Perkiomen Trail.
- A “B” group of physically fit riders who will tackle the loop around Valley Forge Park
- A “C” group of beginners who will take a leisurely ride along the Schuylkill River trail.
Pit-stops for blood glucose checks and snacks will be built into each ride. We will meet back at the Betzwood picnic area at around 11 am.
There is no charge for this event, and you do not need to be a member of DESA to participate. Please give yourself enough time to drive, park, and reach our meeting point by 9am.
If you have any questions, feel free to call me at 610-642-6055, or e-mail me (gary@integrateddiabetes.com). RSVP is appreciated. My cell number the day of the ride is 610-220-0586. The ride will take place if there is light rain or shine.
