DESA 2007 North American Conference
June 28-30, 2007
This is what a few participants at the
Colorado College in Colorado Springs, CO had to say in their evaluations:
--(Re: Saturday Athletic Awards Gala held at the US Olympic Training
Center) "Terrific evening-great food. I felt special."
--"I think the conference was well organized and executed with
balance between presentations, break-out sessions and time for exercise.
Well done & we shall meet again, hopefully in Toronto."
--"enjoyed conference & looking forward to (the) next one.
Everyone did a great job & was very helpful. Great Job!"
--"I would like to see pre- or post- conference options"
--"continue with the small discussion groups--adding the Friday
night dinner was super since it gave me time with J. Walsh who provided
better advice than my own physician at home"
--"this is a fantastic conference. THANK YOU"
Approximately 200 participants, exhibitors
and presenters all gave high marks for this year's meeting.
The Conference Program received strong
support from leaders in pump therapy, exercise physiology, nutrition,
endocrinology, and diabetes education.
In addition, athletes from many areas,
including football (Jay Leewenburg), long distance running (Missy Foy),
cycling (Phil Southerland) and power lifting (Doug Burns-Mr. Universe)
and triathlons (Stephanie Larson) were on hand to talk one-on-one with
participants.

Colorado College was a beautiful setting
with great facilities and services.
The group toured the US Olympic Training
Center on Saturday evening, followed by a juggling show by Noah
and Zan Moore, and were then treated to a reception and gourmet
meal planned and produced by Judith Ambrosini. Thanks
Judith!
The Athletic Achievement Awards were presented
in the USOTC theater to Mauro Sormani and Monigue Hanley. The Lew
Harper Youth Award was presented to Emily Chaddock. See
separate report.
A surprise guest at the Awards Presentation
was Frank Shorter, winner of the 1972 Olympic Marathon Gold Medal,
and the Silver medal in 1976 (the winner of the Gold was subsequently
disqualified for doping).
